Chelsea Hoy’s Colorado homecoming: TIDC’s legacy of empowerment in action

Fresh off of Trinity's triumphant return to the Vail Dance Festival, where Co-Artistic Director Chelsea Hoy and renowned tap choreographer Michelle Dorrance premiered an unprecedented collaboration featuring Irish, tap, and ballet, TIDC returns to Vail Valley on August 28th, this time with 18 dancers, the band, and a full evening of genre-defying repertoire.

TIDC will perform at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, its first full-length Colorado performance in more than two decades. Leading it is Chelsea Hoy: a Denver native who was named the company's Co-Artistic director earlier this year. At 30, she is one of the youngest artistic directors in the performing arts and one of very few women to lead a major dance company.

In 2005, when Hoy was nine years old, her aunt pulled her out of school early and drove her and her sister up the mountain from Denver to see the Trinity Irish Dance Company perform at the Vilar. More than twenty years later, she is returning to that same stage, leading the company she was once inspired by.

"I still remember where I sat in the Vilar when I was nine, inspired by the fierce women of Trinity Irish Dance Company with eyes wide open to the possibilities for this cultural form," Hoy said. "Nearly 13 years into my career with Trinity, this is the first time I'm returning home."

It's a full circle story filled with dreams come true.

Somewhere in the audience this August, there will be another young dancer watching Trinity Irish Dance Company for the first time. With your support, that performance could become the beginning of someone else's story.

Now you can help make this full-circle story complete. Our generous angels have pledged to match one-for-one all donations to the "Full-Circle Fund" up to $10,000, helping us reach our $20,000 goal.
